The SLPCR Bantam A team kicked off the weekend of success with an outstanding run to the championship game in Thief River Falls. Battling through tough competition, they ultimately earned second place, falling only to the hometown Thief River Falls Bantam A, a team ranked #6 in the state.

The Bantams produced several unforgettable moments. Andrew Harb delivered a clutch game-winning goal in the final minutes of pool play, securing a key victory that fueled their momentum. In net, Chase Schoeman put on a remarkable performance—facing 62 shots and stopping 55 — to help push SLPCR into the championship game. SLPCR Peewee B2–Blue – 3rd Place in Hutchinson

The SLPCR Peewee B2–Blue team—known proudly by their self-chosen name Spring Rapids—had an equally impressive showing at Hutchinson’s Bar Down in H-Town Tournament, earning a strong 3rd-place finish.

Led by head coach, and former SLP High School captain, Kelsey Johnson, the team went 2–1 in pool play. After a tough Friday opener against MN River, Spring Rapids stormed back with two dominant wins on Saturday over St. Mary’s and Hutchinson. Their grit earned them a spot in the 3rd-place game against Sartell.

That final matchup was tense from puck drop to the third period, with the teams locked in a 1–1 battle going into the final period. But Spring Rapids came alive when it mattered most, unleashing three third-period goals to seal a commanding 4–1 victory and take home the tournament’s 3rd-place plaque.

SLP Squirt C – 2nd Place in a Winona Shootout Thriller

The SLP Squirt C team put on one of the most dominant pool-play performances imaginable—going 3–0 while their goalie duo of Finn Wurzer and Mackenzie Cowman combined for three consecutive shutouts! Meanwhile, the SLP offensive and defensive skaters exploded for 16 goals and allowing zero in return.

This dominance punched their ticket to the championship game against a formidable Waukesha squad. In what became the most intense game of their season, both teams traded goals throughout regulation, ending tied 3–3. After a scoreless overtime, the title came down to a shootout. Waukesha edged out SLP 2–1, handing them their first loss of the season.

Despite the heartbreak, the Squirt C team skated away with a well-earned second-place finish, showcasing heart, resiliency, and outstanding teamwork.

In a rematch with Fargo to determine who gets to move onto the championship, CSLP fought hard, ultimately finishing with a well-earned third place trophy!

SLPCR Peewee B2 Red Dominates Championship Weekend in Wisconsin Dells

Wisconsin Dells, WI — November 9, 2025

The SLPCR Peewee B2 Red hockey team delivered a flawless performance over the weekend, capturing the championship title in Wisconsin Dells at the Northwoods Showdown with a display of dominance rarely seen at this level of youth hockey.

Going undefeated throughout the tournament, the team not only won every game but did so without allowing a single goal, recording four consecutive shutouts. Their defensive wall was impenetrable, and their offensive firepower was relentless, racking up over 30 goals across the weekend.

The tone was set early when SLPCR Red scored the first goal of the tournament just 9 seconds into their opening game, electrifying the crowd and sending a clear message to their competition. From that moment on, the team never looked back.

Parents and fans who made the trip to Wisconsin were treated to a weekend of exciting, well-played hockey, as SLPCR Red showed strong fundamentals, great teamwork, and a clear passion for the game. The goaltending was flawless, the defense airtight, and the forwards were relentless in their pursuit of the puck.

In the championship game, the team’s defense was so dominant that they allowed only a single shot on goal — a testament to their relentless puck pressure and airtight coverage. The goaltender stood tall when it mattered, preserving the final shutout and sealing the perfect weekend.

But after a weekend of celebration, the team returns to reality this Thursday with a highly anticipated matchup against Rogers Peewee B2, another undefeated powerhouse. With both teams riding perfect records, the clash promises to be a thrilling test of speed, skill, and grit.

With confidence and high momentum on their side, SLPCR Red looks to carry their championship energy into Thursday’s showdown — a game that could define the early season and set the tone for what’s shaping up to be an unforgettable year.

HEY STRIPES - The Easiest Job You'll Ever Love!

By slpyha 11/03/2025, 10:30pm CST

SPRING LAKE PARK, MN – Are you a Peewee (U12) or older hockey player looking for the perfect side hustle? Are you tired of your chores earning you a measly $5? Do you love watching Mite hockey, but wish you could make the big decisions? Look no further! The Spring Lake Park Youth Hockey Association (SLPYHA) is now recruiting youth referees to officiate our Mite games.

This isn't your average officiating gig. We're talking half-ice, tiny humans, and more innocent chaos than a snow day. Your job? To maintain a semblance of order while ensuring maximum fun is being had. Plus, you get to blow a whistle a lot, and let's be honest, who doesn't love that power?

The perks of the job are as sweet as a post-game chocolate milk:

  • Easy Money: Forget flipping burgers. You’ll earn some cool cash while staying involved in the game you love. As one former youth referee, now a college student, once said, "The cash I made reffing Mite games was my first real taste of financial freedom. It was a game-changer. Almost as big as that time I saw a Mite score on the wrong net."

  • A "High-Pressure" Job: We know what you're thinking: the pressure must be insane. But don't worry, the biggest threat is usually a lost glove or a player banging their stick on the glass to see if mom is watching. It's a low-stress environment where you get to guide the next generation of hockey stars.

  • The Best Fans: Mite parents are a different breed. Instead of shouting obscenities, they’re usually yelling things like, "Great effort, sweetie!" ; "Other net! Other net!" ; or "Are you having fun?!". It’s a guaranteed ego boost, even if it’s not directed at you.

  • Stay active: You get paid to skate around, burn off that post-game pizza, and generally move more than you would while playing on the couch.

One current referee, who wished to remain anonymous, told us, "One time I blew the whistle to stop play, but the two 5 year olds chasing the puck kept going. They weren't fighting, they were just… having a conversation about what 6-7 means. So I just skated over, gave them a minute to finish up, and then dropped the puck again. You have to adapt."

So, if you’re at the Peewee or U12 age or older, possess a high level of integrity (or at least, the ability to tell when a puck is in the net), and are looking for a fun way to earn some extra dough, then click on the link below to head on over to the SLPYHA youth referee webpage.

Your whistle awaits!
